A little bit about Skopelos

Skopelos is one of the most beautiful islands in Greece. It is not by chance that the movie Mamma Mia was partly shot in Skopelos (in particular on a beach called Milia).  Once you visit our island you sense that it looks too pretty to be true and that it will definetely live up to your expectation.

Skopelos is the largest island in the Northern Sporades group, and worthy of the title of ‘the Emerald of the Aegean’.  Skopelos remains charmingly untainted by mass tourism. The lush green hillsides  are carpeted with pine and olive trees that sweep down across the countryside, whilst, its pretty white-washed houses spill in layers down the hillsides giving a truly Greek scene. The dense pine forests provide a beautiful backdrop for olive groves and wonderful plum, almond and citrus orchards. Days can be spent exploring the wonderful interior of the island, lounging on lovely sand and shingle beaches as well as  discovering pebble coves.

It is a perfect place to go for a quiet, restful vacation.  The beaches are one of the best in Greece and unlike Cyclades islands (Mykonos,Santorini Paros etc), which  are very harsh, Skopelos is very green. Hundreds of goats dot the island, the roads are in good condition and  the locals are very friendly and helpful.  Skopelos is recommended for a quiet holiday, but if you feel like partying, skopelos town has many traditional and trendy bars offered for night life.

One can reach Skopelos in many ways. You can either to fly from Athens to the neighbouring island of Skiathos and then catch a ferry (half an hour trip from skiathos) or  you  can catch a bus from Athens and then catch a ferry (around 5 hours in all) from Agios Costantinos or even Volos. Alternatively there is a direct boat connection from  Thessaloniki (4 hours). It's all well worth the bit of an effort to get there.
